It felt like the right sort of time to break out the Sega Genesis. I've been replaying Light Crusader, a lesser-known action RPG from Treasure. It's actually one of my favorite Genesis games, based on my Official Videogame Grading Scale for Action RPGs™:
Sorry, what about my math? I'm afraid I can't hear you.
| Weight | Score | |
|---|---|---|
| Combat System | 15% | 6/10 |
| Dungeon Design | 20% | 7/10 |
| Story | 10% | 4/10 |
| Graphics | 10% | 7/10 |
| Main Castle's Music Theme | 60% | 11/10 |
| Total Score | 10/10 |
In all seriousness, the game's clever puzzles are marred by finicky controls and frustrating physics. Combat is obnoxious and the boss fights aren't memorable. I think I like the game because it vaguely reminds me of Solstice (though I'm not sure if there's much in common beyond the isometric dungeon design), and really, it has the best castle music of any game on the Genesis.
That said I'm still playing through it again for the third time. I also hear it's on Virtual Console if that's your thing.
I think I just rescued Princess Leia!

THAT IS NOT PRINCESS LEIA.

Also this has been bothering me: Fever Ray's "Marble House" could totally stand in for the music in Sonic The Hedgehog's Marble Zone.
No, really. It's been bothering me all week.
Nevermind.
